MEET THE PARTICIPANTS
AMY JONG
Amy Jong is a 17-year-old cellist and has been playing for 11 years. She once got paid $15 to name a stranger’s dog on the internet.
BERNARD ZHANG
I am currently an 8th grader at Heritage Oak Private Education. I am passionate
about many things, but the thing that I am most passionate about in life is the cello.
I hope that in the future I can get more opportunities to perform outside of my county.I want to travel nationally or even internationally to make a name for myself.
CASSIDY WALTHER
Cassidy Walther is 16 years old and is a junior at Santa Monica Highschool. She’s played the cello for 11 years. Fun fact, she went to Ireland with her orchestra and can now do a sick Irish accent. She also has 2 cats and 2 dogs.
CHARLOTTE BALAZE
Charlotte Balaze is a 15 year old freshman in the creative writing conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts. She began her cello studies as a 4 year old Suzuki student at the Cleveland Institute of Music and joined Sarah Koo's studio in 2021 after spending 6 years with renowned pedagogue, Mr. Rick Mooney. Charlotte is especially fond of classic mythology and her favorite spare-time activities are going on long hikes with her family, horseback riding with her sister Louise and watching movies.
CHARLOTTE CHOI
Charlotte Choi is 16 years old and a junior at Dos Pueblos High School. She has been playing the cello for 11 years and currently studies with Sarah Koo Freeman. Charlotte enjoys listening to classical music as well as other genres, like musical soundtracks. Outside of music, Charlotte is an avid member of her school’s Varsity Mock Trial team and recently travelled to Los Angeles with her team and placed 2nd in California.
IRENE CHOUNG
Hi! My name is Irene Choung, and I am a junior in the Orange County School of the Arts. I have been playing cello for around 9 years now, and enjoy doing chamber and orchestral works. A fun fact about me is that I like to watch New Girl in my free time, and enjoy spending time doing various artworks such as crochet and doodling.
JOSEPH FREEMAN
Joseph is 7 years old. He is a 1st grader at The Pegasus School. He likes golf, cello, legos, and math.
KATE SHIM
Kate is 7 years old and a first grader at Cypress Village elementary school. Kate loves playing the cello and piano. Aside from music, she enjoys drawing, reading and practicing acrobat. Her favorite hobby is drawing fairies.
LUCAS LEE
Lucas Lee is a 13-year-old cellist and attends Gaspar de Portola Highly Gifted Middle School. He began studying the cello at the age of five at Colburn and currently studies with Sarah Koo Freeman. He plays ice hockey and enjoys bodyboarding and dancing in his free time. His favorite artists are Prokofiev, Freddie Mercury, and BTS.
NATALIE KWOK
Natalie Kwok, sixteen years old, is a current Junior at Fairmont Preparatory Academy (and a member of the Advanced Science and Engineering Program). She has been studying cello for eleven years. Natalie has travelled to fourteen different countries and has a strong aversion to pineapples on pizza and bananas (although she does enjoy banana milk and bread).
YUL YANG
Yul Yang is 15 years old and has been playing the cello for 7 years. He is an avid back-stroke specialized swimmer on his school's undefeated swim team and also a member of the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF). His favorite restaurant is McDonald’s.
